How We Authenticate Every Piece
A look at our inspection checklist: stamps, construction, settings, clasps, and the small details that separate treasure from costume.
Authentication does not require a lab coat. It requires patience, good light, and a willingness to say no. Every piece that enters Coquetá Jewelry goes through the same practical checklist before it ever reaches the storefront.
First, we check the metal. We look for stamps inside bands, on earring posts, on bracelet tabs, and on the backs of pendants. A 10k or 14k stamp, a 925 sterling mark, or a recognizable maker’s hallmark tells us the base is genuine.
Next, we inspect construction. Prongs should grip stones firmly. Clasps should snap cleanly and hold tension. Hinges on lockets and bracelets should move smoothly without grinding. These mechanical details predict whether a piece will survive daily wear.
For stones, we use a loupe and a few simple tests. We look for inclusions, mounting style, wear patterns, and signs of replacement. When we are uncertain, we consult a trusted local gemologist rather than guess.
If a piece fails any major step, it does not get listed. We would rather pass on inventory than risk a buyer’s trust. That is the standard behind every item in our shop.
